Thanks for the WHAS airchecks. It is nice to remember how good this station used to be. All local, all live and real helicopter traffic reports. What a joke it is now I have a copy on cassette of Terry Miners Christmas Carol from December 1987. I have just moved so I need to find it in whatever box it is in and then put it on the pc in mp3 format. I will be glad to share it once I get it on the pc. I used to listen to WHAS most of the time, especially Joe Donovan but I never listen any more as they have gone corporate. Again, thanks for the memories of this and other great stations we had here in Louisville.

Somewhere around here, I have a Kentucky Barn Dance show from the fifties. For those that don't know, it was a country music show broadcast live by WHAS. It starred, naturally, Randy Atcher. Part of the show was nationally broadcast by CBS. It has to be a mid to late fifties show because Randy tries his hand at some rockabilly.

Hi; About the same time I moved to Louisville and went to work for WLRS / WXVW from Huntington WV. a fellow DJ from WKEE-AM also moved from Huntington to Louisville and went to work as a DJ for WHAS. His name was Jim Schnieder...AKA the "Flying Dutchman" Do you recall him? Do you have any of his old (late 60s) vintage airchecks?
I understand that he's deceased now, but it would be interesting to hear his voice again.
Regards
Dan

I would have to agree. I used to think ClearChannel bought this station in 1997 right after the telecommunications act of 1996 but I later learned it was 1986...just they powertripped and bought half the market up in '96 and started to consolidate everything and WHAS really really suffered. I was in my teens at the time and I really took notice of the changes yet i had no clue what was really happening. But yes, you listen to this stuff from before then and it blows me away. I forgot about the little stingers WHAS used in the mid 90's for the "WHAS color radar weather forecast) along with about everything else. I put about 9 hours of stuff from the 70's-90's from this site on my ipod and listen to it when I'm in my commute to and fro..haha
