Heard a rumor that when WRKA's new tower and transmitter are finished, the station will change format to news/talk. Can anyone confirm?

I have no idea, but anything is possible. However, unless it's all syndicated, the news/talk format is one of the most expensive formats to pull off. Good local talk show hosts are a lot harder to find than your typical voicetracked medium market jock, and are usually paid accordingly.
Even though WHAS has been downsized to a fraction of its former glory, it would still be hard to beat them in the news/talk arena...even with a full power FM...unless Cox could get Rush, Meiners and others to jump ship.
Of course, should Cox or anybody else put on a big FM news/talk, don't be surprised if Clear Channel Louisville sacrifices one of their underperforming FM stations and does a WHAS simulcast.
I know one thing though. If WRKA were to get out of the oldies format it sure would make WAKY-FM in E-town happy!

WHAS did cross my mind. Then, secondarily, WGTK seems to have most of the best of the rest shows. Heard Joe Elliott's name mentioned in connection with RKA, since he seems to only be part time at WHAS.

I would hate to see WRKA dump oldies...they carried the banner around here for several years.
If they do switch to talk radio, then they would do well to hire Joe Elliot. He is a great talent.
And simulcasting WHAS on FM? That would be truly bizarre!

Well, it isn't going to be news/talk...
I turned on the radio this afternoon and WRKA had become Q-Country 103.1, simulcasting New Country 103.9.
Don't know if it is a stunt, but any country station will have a long way to go to unseat WAMZ.
I hate to see the end of WRKA, though...

It is no rumor and it isn't a stunt either it's official: According to the members at COX: “The launch of 'New Country Q103.1' will give country music lovers their favorite music all day, every day with fewer commercials. 'New Country Q103.1' will play only eight commercials per hour, which is by far the lowest rate of any country music station in the market.”
WQNU will also be adding ‘local/live’ talent in weeks to come.
“Louisville Country music listeners have been asking for a country station that plays their favorite music with fewer commercials, and we are excited to fill that void in the market,” claimed Todd Schumacher Vice President and Market Manager of Cox Radio Louisville. “With 'New Country Q103.1', we are guaranteeing only eight commercials per hour, giving listeners more music, and we’re doing it on one of the strongest FM signals in the market.”
WQNU,formerly Classsic Hits WRKA, will be simulcasting at 103.1 and 103.9 FM.

WQNU,formerly Classsic Hits WRKA, will be simulcasting at 103.1 and 103.9 FM. And what exactly is the point in this? Why do they need two different frenquencies on the FM dial? RIP WRKA

The simulcast is probably temporary, as they try to transition their country listeners from 103.9 to 103.1.
Something else will be on 103.9 before you know it.

That was different. I have listened to WRKA off and on since it went to to the oldies format in 1989, that was hard to listen too.
