I'll tell you a story, and so you understand, I'm 26, a few years ago i was working different places, filling in here or there. Well, my buddies own a "garbage" business. They would fall short on help and I was in between jobs, so it all worked out to where i would help them. I'm thinking this was like 5-6 years ago but I've always been a person interested in history, or nostalgia liked the old music up until the 80s when i was a child. We all live on in Indiana outside of New Albany so that was mainly the area in which we had routes for trash pick up.
Well, in the 'nice' trailer park of The Pines off grant line road (at the base of the Floyds Knobs "radio tower" hills we was doing a usual pick up one Wednesday. I unloaded a can full of stuff that looked like someone was just cleaning out, and alot of old cassettes fell about..well most of them were form the 80's, and I have most of that on tape or cd already, but something stood out to me, and that was an old TDK SA90 cassette with "FM Music" written across both sides. I figured it was vintage for someone to bother putting "FM" on it figuring stereo was still a big deal, so i pulled it out and back in the truck.
I get home that day get cleaned up and decide to see what I had found. So into the tape player it goes and the sound is excellent, nice and bassy, exciting. Take me Home, Another Night, Crush, I'll keep holding on..etc etc was recorded off the radio onto this tape. I listened for ID's and found 2 sprinkled through the tape "LRS102" and "103RKA" the more agressive stuff seemed to be LRS and the more AC stuff was RKA. Unfortunetly the music was the focus to you just got the front and tail ends of more of the DJ stuff. the RKA DJ never said his name but I'm pretty sure it wasn't Glenn Beck. LRS the guy did say his name and it was Dave Lee (as found here on the site) the most I got was his intro into the Jets "Crush"
I still have the tape and actually like to stick it in as it seems even the old cassette tapes are like old records, they just just seem to have that nice warm hum to them not found on cd's
Just thought I'd shar,e I'd like to donate for the site but like i said, very limited, atleast you'd have about 15 seconds of the Dave Lee LRS intro.
