The 1973 Derby call by Cawood Ledford is one of the best pieces of Louisville radio history on this site.
Here we are, nearly thirty-five years later, and this call still gives me goosebumps when Cawood describes the stretch run...
"Sham on the inside, Secretariat on the outside...we've got less than 150 yards to come, and Secretariat's on top and he's going to take it all!"
There is also a Cawood retrospective on this site with snippets of several of his other Derby calls.
Which begs the question: How many of these race calls (1961-1992) have survived the years? Did WHAS maintain these in their archives?
Does anyone have copies they could share with John Quincy to be posted on this website?
Derby coverage is an important part of Louisville radio history and should be represented here.
