Does anyone know for sure what year Ron Clay passed away? I'm thinking it was 1990 or 91. Also, the morning show had a weather man named Todd Richmond who did the character voice of Fred the bum. Does anyone happen to have any airchecks of this, and does anyone also know what happened to Todd Richmond? Matt Sorrell: Falmouth Kentucky

Oddly enough, I am looking at the newspaper article telling of his passing...it's in a scrapbook on loan to me from a fellow radio colleague. Problem is there is no date given, only that Ron died at 41 from lymphatic cancer at Humana in Louisville.

I believe it was in 1991 as both WAVG and WLRS were still in the 800 Bldg. I know both WAVG and WLRS both maintained a minute of radio silence upon Ron's passing. Ron Clay was a fantastic individual and I recall working one Derby week he and I were both on board the Delta Queen during the steamboat race. We all had a good time and everyone from all the radio stations tended to be social when we weren't on air at our various stations back then at special events we covered.
Ron Clay made WQMF special and both he and Minners at WLRS. I think Ron would be sad about the industry today because he was truly a unique personality and individual
