RIP Chuck
Chuck was a good guy. Always willing to talk and take requests.

I wonder if there are any Pee Wee King shows on those tapes?

Meiners was doing the WHAS Sunday Morning Talk Show and plugged lkyradio as a site to visit for airchecks and also to get a little history on radio in Lousiville and Lexington.
BTW, the Sunday Morning Talk Show ceases to exist after today. Next Sunday will be The Sunday Morning Sports Show.

That's good news and bad news. It's good that Joe has a full time gig, but that time slot puts him up against the heavyweight in talk radio. I think it would have been better if they could have put him in the 9 - noon or 3 - 6 PM slot.

RIP Francene.
43 is to young to go. It's said she had a heart attack, and then a brain anuresym.
I know she had taken a dislike to the politics of Mayor For Life Jerry. She stirred the pot about that on more than a few occassions.

I just barely remember them. Pretty sure they were on 1290.

I know there were a few callers to Doug's show that were just spoiling for a fight with him. I never understood that. Most of them came off like dimwits.

Of course Steve McNichol not only did the vocal on "You, I', he also wrote it and played lead. Apparently Shelby Singleton cheated The Rugbys out of some royalties on the record. I also heard their manager was in on it as well.
There is some confusion regarding The Rugbys and The Oxfords. In the beginning, there was The Oxfords, and they were the hottest band in the area. There was a disagreement over what direction the band would take, and all the members of The Oxfords left, with the exception of the drummer. The drummer retained the name of The Oxfords, and the rest of the group, after adding a drummer, became The Rugbys.

Terry Meiners was talking about "Diamond John". How he and Ron Clay would drive him crazy with "The Show With No Name".
RIP "Diamond John".

Rush Limbaugh may have had something to do with Doug's departure. Rush was originally on 790, before WHAS. Someone who knows the timeline could see if Doug's leaving was around the same time Rush moved to WHAS.

UEI had something to do with getting WLKY on the air. I think UEI may have owned the station, or had some interest in it.

I think that was the original WLKY.

Somewhere around here, I have a Kentucky Barn Dance show from the fifties. For those that don't know, it was a country music show broadcast live by WHAS. It starred, naturally, Randy Atcher. Part of the show was nationally broadcast by CBS. It has to be a mid to late fifties show because Randy tries his hand at some rockabilly.
