Last several nights in the 9-12 slot Michael Savage hasn't been on. a little trip to whas.com shows savage gone from programming and a TBA..so I'm thinking they are in limbo.. I believe Mark Levin has been on and he's far better than Savage, but I think this would be an excellent time to stress to the Clear Channel 'monster' that we like the local aspect this station has lost so much in over 10 years now. Bring Joe Elliott back or SOMETHING local...if everyone hasd the time an energy it would be great, and pass along this idea to others if you could. Program director is Kelly Carls, and I have his email. KellyCarls@clearchannel.com maybe enough pressure could sway them, maybe not..it is CC thanks! -Adam

Adam:
While I agree that we need more local flavor I don't think we will ever get it back. WHAS has gone the way of the dodo for me as I have not listened in years now. The talk shows I like are ones that don't regurgitate the same thing over and over which unfortunately are few and far between. Those emails would probably just get dumped in the trash anyway. CheapChannel only cares about the bottom line and so long as WHAS makes money that is all that matters. Sad but true.

I'll have to agree with you for the most part. I have emailed them before and Carls has replied, usually some excuse for the syndication when I know its CC pinching pennies.
I think if enough people knew or cared it could hit them somewhere. CC is so big and it's America and in one way it's fine in another it lacks quality. I'm sure you know since the deregulation in 96 all the station buying allowed them to consolidate and thats about the time Joe Donovans show went boom. Its hard to say how much longer that show had gone anyways as he was getting ready to retire anyways.
I just wish it'd somehow go up for sale for whatever reason, maybe someone like CBS could buy it..you ever listen to KMOX 1120? thats where Doug McElvein went and still is. They have a great lay out, 95% local content, and saturday evenings Johnny Rabbit has an oldies show, complete with older KMOX jingles.
Anyways I just wanted to say I tried! thanks

Yes. I like KMOX 1120 quite a bit and was listening while in Saint Louis last month on business for three days. 720 WGN in Chicago is also still a good station. Amazingly 700 WLW in Cincinnati is still almost all local with live people there even on the weekend and overnights for news and weather. The amazing thing is that it is a CheapChannel station.

I have e-mailed this sentiment several times to Kelly Carls. Kelly, I believe, is a man who wants to keep his paycheck and who probably has as much influence on what happens at WHAS as you and I do.
Clear Channel's mission around the country is to buy up beloved local institutions and remove every reason people loved them. I find it amusing that they point to the Internet, Sat Radio, and iPods as reasons why their listenership is down. Nobody considers that they, like Newspapers, have completely lost their local flavor.

Well I'm guessing they are not feeling the pain, and no one really cares, as they still sit atop the local ratings year in and year out. They'd have to go completely syndicated I think to lose that..and I bet thats not to far into the future.
